Our Mission
The Little Theatre of Jefferson City encourages education and development of artistic talent; offers creative opportunities for all artists by presenting quality theatrical productions; and promotes community participation, interest, and support for the performing arts.
Our Origins
In 1969 the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary sponsored a musical theatre production entitled "Little Mary Sunshine" to raise money for the hospital. Local townspeople volunteered their time and talents, and the production was a huge success. The show generated such enthusiasm that a tradition was born, and the Little Theatre of Jefferson City was its name.

Mrs. Doe Cook was our first President, Fr. John Long and Mrs. Wyn Riley took on the first season as directors. Shikles Garage & Warehouse was our first home, where sets were designed, constructed, and where rehearsals were held. Through the years, as set pieces and costumes accumulated, it was decided that TLTJC needed a bigger home.

Through the efforts of attorney Michael Riley, a suitable place was found, which is where we are, now. The building, located at 1005 Chestnut Street, was formerly the poolhouse and snack bar for the old Jefferson City Swimming Pool. The pool was where the parking lot is, now. Since then, several modifications have been made to the structure, including, most recently, a brand new roof.

If you know anyone active with TLT, you might hear them refer to it simply as "The Building".
Community Involvement
Since TLT began, we have always gotten tremendous support from our patrons and our business community through sponsorships and donations, as well as audiences. So much so, that we have made a commitment to give back. In the coming seasons, we may be hosting events during the runs of one or more shows that will benefit specific organizations in our community. This is TLT's way of saying 'thank you' to all of those who have supported us in the past, and all of those who will support us in the future. Listed below are our efforts to date.
